MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 27, 2016) – Cunningham Motorsports announced today that 17-year-old Austin Cindric will make his third start for the team in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards next weekend at Pocono Raceway, driving the No. 99 PIRTEK Ford Fusion. Cindric raced for the team twice in 2015, posting a fourth-place finish at Iowa Speedway and a 17th-place finish at Kentucky Speedway.
The start comes as Cindric, already an established road racing driver, has continued to try and further his full-bodied stock car experience. Cindric attempted to make the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Dover earlier this month only to see his shot wiped out when rain canceled qualifying despite being sixth on the speed charts earlier in the day. Cindric also earned his first NASCAR K&N Pro Series East victory – in his first series start – at the Virginia International Raceway road course in late April.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back in an ARCA car at Pocono,” said Cindric. “It’s a very unique track that can test a driver and a team. With only three turns and all three of them being totally different, you have to be on your game. There have been some great drivers come through ARCA and get their first wins in the series at Pocono. I just want to go out there, make laps and be competitive. If we can race for the win at the end, then that’s just an additional plus.”
PIRTEK, the industry leader in fluid transfer solution sales will sponsor Cindric’s No. 99 Ford Fusion at Pocono. Although their name might be new to racing fans in the U.S., PIRTEK has a rich history in motorsports. In Australia, PIRTEK was well known as the primary sponsor of Marcos Ambrose during his V8 Supercars championship run in 2003 and 2004. Today, they are a primary sponsor for DJR Team Penske’s SuperCar team. PIRTEK also sponsored Cindric’s truck at Dover.
“We are excited to work with Austin again and ride along with him as he goes for his first ARCA win,” said Glenn Duncan, Executive Director, PIRTEK International. “It was really unfortunate that Austin’s truck race at Dover was washed out because the PIRTEK truck looked great. So when the opportunity came up to work with Austin again at Pocono, we thought it was a great opportunity to continue to spread the word about PIRTEK and our brand here in the United States. We still really feel like Austin is a rising talent in the motorsports world and we think he will represent the brand well at Pocono.”
Cindric, the son of Team Penske President Tim Cindric, has competed and won in races across the globe, including the Red Bull Global Rallycross Series and the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge Series. In addition, Cindric has competed in various oval and road racing events, including the prestigious Bathurst 12 Hour race in Australia.
“We first worked with Austin at the Daytona test last year,” said Kerry Scherer, Managing Director of Cunningham Motorsports. “He showed exceptional ability then and continues to impress every time he races. It’s great to have him back with us for Pocono.”
The ARCA Racing Series General Tire #AnywhereIsPossible 200 at Pocono Raceway is set to go off Friday, June 3rd at 5:45pm ET and will be televised live on FOXSports1.
