by Tommy Goudge (May 31, 2016) – Six Nations, Ontario – Alex Hill had a successful first race at the famed Eldora Speedway on Sunday night, while her team enjoyed even more success with Christopher Bell driving a second Hill’s Racing Sprint Car.
Alex’s weekend began with the National Racing Alliance series racing at Limaland Motorsports Park’s 17th annual Memorial Cup event. She was part of a strong field of 31 cars, and narrowly missed transferring from her heat race directly into the A-Feature in her first race at the high-banked quarter mile. She started 17th in the A-Feature, and drove to a 14th place finish.
“I could’ve done better in the heat,” Alex lamented. “It was fun, (and I) learned a lot with it being so slick and using my brake and letting off the gas to go faster. It was a fun track and I’d like to go back there.”
Saturday’s NRA event at Waynesfield Raceway Park was rained out, so the Hill’s team headed for Eldora Speedway and the 47th annual Johnny Appleseed Classic on Sunday. Alex was able to qualify 29th out of 34 in her debut at the high-banked, high-speed half-mile, while NASCAR Truck Series regular Christopher Bell jumped into a second Hill’s Racing car and set the fastest lap in time trials.
Alex started 8th her heat race and finished 7th, which resulted in her starting 13th in the 10 lap B-Feature. Christopher started 4th in the same heat race and won it to garner the 6th starting spot in the 20 lap A-Feature.
Alex got more comfortable in the B-Feature, passing several cars to finish 9th, but ran out of time to claim a top 4 transfer spot. Bell didn’t stay in 6th for long in the A-Feature, and shot to the lead and eventual win over fellow Truck series regular Rico Abreu.
“It was really fast and I was scared to go high until the B-Main, which was when I finally went up high,” Alex admitted.
Next up on Alex’s schedule are three ASCS National tour events; Plymouth Speedway (Indiana) on Wednesday, June 1, Hartford Speedway (Michigan) on Friday, June 3, and Brownstown Speedway (Indiana) on Saturday, June 4.
