OAKLAND, Ont. – May 30, 2016 – The Insta-Insulation Motorsports team sprung back in to action for night two of competition at Ohsweken Speedway’s Emergency Services Night on May 27. All three drivers were once again in action.
Rookie Crate Sprint Car pilot Alex Schuts drove his Insulthan Extreme/Middleport Mechanical No.5 to a 10th-place finish. The tally was his first career top-10 in a Sprint Car. Schuts ran seventh throughout the first half of the feature before finishing 10th. The race was another excellent learning experience, he said.
“It’s a bit disappointing because I was up in seventh for most of the race. I screwed up on the last five laps. I was running the high line and the middle line seemed to be better if you could get hooked in to it, but I felt like I couldn’t,” Schuts said. “It was a good show last night. I was on the high line most of the race and I’m learning to push the limit on that and how close I can get to the wall.”
Schuts’ Sprint Car teammate Brad Herron drove the No.12 Miska Trailer Factory/Climatizer Cellulose car to a fourth-place finish. Herron now has two top-five finishes in as many starts to begin the season.
“I would have been thrilled with another podium finish, but the way the car is driving right now and hooking up on these dry-slick tracks. I’m super pumped,” Herron commented. “We struggled last year on the dry-slick so to have two top-fives right now and be passing cars is a total confidence boost. We keep marching in the right direction.”
Both Herron and Schuts have been excited with the racing so far this season and the considerate nature of the drivers in the division.
“The collection of the drivers in this division, I think there’s 15 or 16 I’ve driven with, and the level of respect is unbelievable,” Schuts said. “Even when we’re not on the track, all the drivers talk to each other. There’s good camaraderie. I feel comfortable driving around them.”
Thunder Stock team member Karl Sault powered the No.81 Great Lakes Beer/Waterous Holden car to an 11th-place finish. The result for Sault is a positive after a pair of spins forced him to come to the back.
“In the feature, the car was handling great. I stepped up in to corner four and the car came around on me. I had to start from the back and started making my way back up again on the top. Then, somebody blew a rad hose and I got in to that and spun the car around again,” Sault explained.
Naturally, Sault would have preferred to contest for the win, but took the positives out of his week two run and has another building block for the next week of competition.
“We had the same setup again and it felt good,” Sault said. “If I hadn’t looped it, I would have been up there contending again.”
The Intsa-Insulation/Insta-Panels Motorsports team returns to action next Friday, June 3 for Media Night.
