2015 OSCAAR Midget Champion Jody Bound was pretty much flawless last year, and the trend has continued to this season.
Bound dominated on Saturday night at Peterborough Speedway, leading all 25 laps in the feature en route to scoring the victory. All in all, though, it was a perfect night as he won both his heats to be top qualifier, followed by drawing the pole in the re-draw.
Overall, though, the division put on a show as while Bound dominated, it was a good battle for second and third back and forth between the Woodlands. In the end, it’d be Richard Woodland getting second, with Brian Woodland in third. The pair are both off to a great start this season as Brian won the season opener at Flamboro Speedway, with Richard third.
James Stanley was fourth for his second straight top-five, with Larry Lawson rounding out the fast five for his first top-five of 2016.
Shawn Stanley finished sixth in his 2016 debut, followed by Wayne McKibbon, Brian MacDonald, Wally Wilson.
Russ Couture finished 11th in his second career OSCAAR start, followed by Bill Heatherton. Following a spin, Zack Millman finished 13th in his second start, while Ryan Brown and Darryl Anthony rounded out the field as a result of mechanical issues.
Following the first two races of the season, Brian Woodland currently leads the points standings, three points ahead of Richard Woodland. Stanley is third, followed by Lawson and McKibbon.
Russ Couture currently leads the Race Time Radio – Sirius XM 167 Hard Charger Award standings, two points ahead of Stanley. Wilson is third, followed by Alex Cuzilla and MacDonald. The Hard Charger standings is determined by how many positions a driver gains during the course of a feature from their starting spot. Throughout the year, each driver gains a point per position gained towards the year-end award – like a ‘race within a race’. At the end of the season, the win will receive prizes courtesy of RTR and SiriusXM at the banquet.
The OSCAAR Midgets will be back in action this coming weekend at Grand Bend Speedway on June 4, joined by the OSCAAR Pro Midgets.
