by Tommy Goudge (June 1, 2016) – Caistor Centre, Ontario – The Team Turner Racing Sprint Cars were fast again last Friday at Ohsweken Speedway. Jamie Turner and son Ryan started on the front row, and all three cars landed in the top 10 at the end of the A-Feature.
Jamie Turner and son Ryan started side-by-side in the second row of the second heat race on Friday, but Jamie moved up to the pole position when another competitor was penalized for jumping the initial start. Jamie crossed the finish line 2nd, with Ryan close behind in 3rd.
Cory started side-by-side with Hill’s Racing teammate Dain Naida on the front row, and they finished where they started – Dain 1st, and Cory 2nd.
“The cars were fast, but (we) just needed to get to the cushion earlier – It was the place to be!” Ryan exclaimed.
All three Turner drivers made the redraw for A-Feature starting positions for the first time since Ryan joined the Sprint Car fold last season.
“Our Buddy Brennen drew Jamie 2nd and Cory 5th, and (I) was handed the pole by fellow competitor Dylan Westbrook,” said Ryan of the front row matchup with his father.
Jamie got out to an early lead when the 20 lap feature began, while Ryan ran 4th, and Cory hovered between 7th and 8th before falling as far back as 10th. Jamie lost the lead to eventual winner Mitch Brown on lap 7, but kept the leader in sight until traffic became a factor. Jamie lost another spot after a lap 14 restart, but held on to finish 3rd and claim his first podium finish of the season.
Ryan fell to 6th after the restart, but salvaged a 5th place finish when Dain Naida slid out of the groove trying to catch Jamie for 3rd, while Cory also moved forward after the restart and passed Shane Ross for 8th on the last lap.
“Happy to have all three Team Turner Racing cars making the redraw and then at the front battling it out,” Ryan noted. “We still have lots of work to do, but we are happy with this progress in the right direction.”
“My car was good in the heat race, but just lacked forward drive in the feature,” Cory added. “Working hard this week to find some more speed! (Our) plan for the weekend is Ohsweken Friday night, and Humberstone on Sunday.”
