NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Driver Makes His Debut at Texas Motor Speedway
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 7, 2016) –NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) driver Austin Hill is making his first national touring start at the 1.5-mile oval of Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) this Friday in the Rattlesnake 400. The 22-year-old is piloting the No. 20 A+D Welding Ford F-150 and will be making his third start this season as he runs a partial NCWTS schedule.
Hill has two NASCAR career starts on 1.5-mile tracks, both of which resulted in Top-20 finishes, including a 12th place finish at his home track of Atlanta Motor Speedway earlier this season. Hill has posted Top-20 finishes in each of his two NCWTS starts so far this season.
“Racing on 1.5-mile tracks is a lot different than the shorter tracks I’m used to,” said Hill. “The bigger tracks just require a different style because aero and traction comes into play, especially with the Truck Series since they don’t have as much horsepower.”
The NASCAR Next alum is not afraid of trying new things and looks to use this weekend’s race as a way to build his team’s intermediate track program.
“You want to hold it full throttle for as many laps as you can, if you can,” said Hill. “I’m pretty comfortable running wide open like that. It’s learning the drafting and side drafting that will be the test. Learning to work the air and knowing the right time to pull off another truck to make the pass will be a focus for me this weekend.”
Hill, from Winston, Ga., raced Legend Cars at Texas Motor Speedway’s 1/5-mile circuit as he was starting his racing career. Hill earned the 2014 Battle at the Big Top Pro Championship title in the US Legend Cars Series at the track.
“I’m pretty excited to be making my first NASCAR start at Texas Motor Speedway,” said Hill. “I’ve raced Legend Cars there in the past but to be racing there in the Truck Series is awesome!”
The Rattlesnake 400 will take place on Friday, June 10 at 9:00p.m. ET at Texas Motor Speedway. Fans can follow Hill on social media for updates at Austin Hill Racing (Facebook), @_AustinHill (Twitter) and @_Austin_Hill_ (Instagram).
