DURHAM, Ont. – June 4, 2016 – Jason Keen held off a hard-charging Steve Trendell and a strong Brian Atkinson to earn his first Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modified feature win of the season on Saturday, June 4 at Full Throttle Motor Speedway near Durham, Ont.
Daryl Henwood and Ian Burney started on the front row for the 25-lap main event. Henwood claimed the early lead and held the top position until lap 10. Three laps before the halfway mark, Keen took to the outside lane of the high-banked ¼-mile oval and took over the point.
A caution on lap 11 for damage to Mike Williams’ No.7 following contact with Cassidy March slowed the field for the only yellow of the race. On the ensuing restart, Keen jumped out to the lead, while Trendell jumped past Henwood on the bottom side of racetrack to move in to the second spot.
Over the final 14 laps, Trendell was glued to the back bumper of Keen’s No.18 while the two set a blistering pace at the front of the field. Trendell momentarily looked like he may have a chance at the lead as Keen got himself in to a dicey situation in traffic.
As he approached the lapped car of Amanda Stoner, Keen tried to go low to pass the rookie driver, but the No.80 yielded the top lane to the leader. Keen took evasive action to move past Stoner and did so without contact. Trendell didn’t have enough room to capitalize on Keen’s near-miss. Keen was unscathed over the remainder of the race and held off Trendell and Atkinson for his first win of the season.
In qualifying heat race action, Henwood held off Williams to win the first heat. Keen flexed his muscle in the second heat, earning the win over Cassidy March.
