AYR, Ont. – June 15, 2016 – JR Fitzpatrick is in a hurry to get back to Flamboro Speedway on Saturday night for round two of the 2016 OSCAAR Super Late Model tour. Fitzpatrick won the opening round for the tour back on May 21 in spectacular fashion.
The driver of the Auto Parts Centres/Meineke Car Care No.84 is hungry for another win and believes he can still make gains in his return to Flamboro.
“We had a bit of a carburetor issue at Flamboro, but the car was really good off the corners. Now we’re going to have a boatload more power and the front end is turning a lot better,” Fitzpatrick said, offering a scary forecast for the rest of the field.
“It’s going to be totally different. The car was good, but we can make it better.”
Fitzpatrick is coming off a disappointing finish at Sunset Speedway on June 4th when he suffered a flat right-rear tire that hampered what would have been a top-three finish.
“We got out front early and held on for a little while We were a top-three car, not a winning car. Then I got a flat tire. We didn’t have any good tires to put on in the pits, so I could barely hold on,” Fitzptrick said.
Despite the misfortune two weeks ago, Fitzpatrick’s team is often inspired by a challenge. A little anger can often produce results for the fiery Ayr native who has made changes with hopes of earning his second win of the season. The team has been tinkering with their car this year after switching to built motor in 2016 from the Crate option they ran one year ago.
“We’re going to go with a little bit of what we’ve been using, but we’re changing the front end. We’re going with kind of a new setup, but also one that’s the same as last year with the Crate motor,” he said.
Fitzpatrick’s hard work is no secret, but the OSCAAR format requires a little help from lady luck.
“It all depends where we start. It’s a draw for the top-10 drivers. Whoever starts up front can runaway,” Fitzpatrick said, adding he believes there won’t be many yellow flags to reset the field.
