AYR, ON – Adam Martin takes a big step in his racing progression this weekend when he competes in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series event at his home track Sunset Speedway.
The 18-year-old Bluevale High School graduate from Ayr, Ontario, will debut the Micks Motorsports-owned Johnsonville Ford on a race track where he’s turned hundreds of laps.
“It makes perfect sense to debut at Sunset Speedway,” said Martin. “I have a lot of laps here in different kinds of race cars, and I’m more comfortable here than anywhere else.”
The Leland 300 presented by Dickies will feature some of Canada’s best race car drivers. The speedway is located just south of Barrie, Ontario, and Martin races there regularly in the limited late model division.
His entry into Canada’s NASCAR series is the next step in a five year plan. His goal is to ultimately contest the full schedule and continue climbing the motorsports ranks. Martin is a well-grounded young man with solid priorities. He begins his post-secondary education at Conestoga College in the Fall with a focus on trades. Eventually he would like to run his own General Contracting business while pursuing a racing career.
Martin has aligned himself with a veteran team with highly skilled members, and he’s eager to be as involved as he can. The current plan is to compete at Sunset Speedway this weekend, and then contest some of the series’ premier road racing events at Circuit ICAR in Mirabel Quebec, the Honda Indy Toronto, and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park’s major NASCAR event on Labour Day Weekend in September.
“Don Jacobson is the crew chief for our NASCAR program,” said Martin. “He’s won a lot of races over the years particularly with young racers. We have worked well together since partnering in 2015. Ray McCaughey (Late Model Crew Chief) is also part of our NPS crew.
“Ray joined our team in 2016 managing our late model program in conjunction with Kerry Micks. Ray does a great job coaching and managing our setup each week.”
Martin will proudly represent Johnsonville Sausage, Olivier’s Chocolates and Candies (Candy Tree), Reser’s Fine Foods, Secure Drive, STIHL Canada, Little Potato Company, & Legacy Auto Leasing in his NASCAR efforts this season.
