Innisfil (Ontario, Canada), June 19, 2016 – In fourth place on the starting grid, everything was in place for the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare team to perform well yesterday on the Sunset Speedway oval circuit in Innisfil, Ontario. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin stays within the top-5 range right from the first few laps, and it lasted until the car started having understeering issues at the 120th lap. He fought until the end in order to maintain his place and to finish the race (12th place).
The trial and qualifying sessions went very well for the WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare driver. Fans were well-served in action for this 300-lap event punctuated with eight yellow flags.
“We did a good job qualifying the car. However, problems started adding up around mid-race and, notably, the air conditioning system had issues. In this situation, we had to ensure we could finish the race and maintain our place as close as possible to the top-10. The guys have worked hard once again this weekend. We know we can do better, and we’ll be back in full force,” explains the #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare driver.
300-lap event: mandatory pit-stop halfway through
Much like the Riverside International Speedway track (Antigonish, Nova Scotia, 9th event- August 20, 2016), which is considered a near-replica of the famous Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, Tennessee, USA), the Autodrome Chaudière is nicknamed “Le petit Bristol Québécois” (the little Bristol of Quebec). This asphalted oval track (a quarter mile) is also the most steeply inclined in Quebec.
The pits are located outside the track, requiring a full stop of the race planned by the series at approximately the 150th lap. The drivers are also authorized to make pit stops at any point during the race; however it’s an extra challenge as all teams will need to make a simultaneous pit stop for fuel replenishment and the tire change. The cars will then get back into place for the race’s second start.
