DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – For the first time in his storied career in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, Burt Myers has accomplished something unique in 2016.
The 2010 tour champion has always been known as a strong second-half performer, but this season he’s already picked up a pair of wins before July.
Myers will look to add to his resume Friday if he can win the Davis Roofing 150 ay Caraway Speedway in Sophia, North Carolina. If Myers wins he will become the fourth driver in the 11-year history of the tour to win three or more races in a row at Caraway.
The Walnut Cove, North Carolina, veteran won the season opener and went in to the spring break winning at the .455-mile track in April. His wins enabled him to lead the point standings by nine over four-time series champion George Brunnhoelzl III, who also picked up a pair of wins in the spring.
Brunnhoelzl, who already owns the Caraway record for most tour wins with 12, is the defending winner of the July race at Caraway.
Danny Bohn finished third in the spring race and returns driving for Chris and Frank Fleming. He led 36 laps in the most recent race at Caraway after earning the Coors Light Pole Award. Bohn will join defending champion Andy Seuss as another favorite that could leave Caraway Friday with their first win of the season.
Seuss is second in career wins at Caraway with 11. The two-time defending champion and Bruinnhoelzl have won 16 of the last 26 tour races held at the track since 2011.
