Another weekend in the books, another solid performance put in by A.J. Emms this season as he finished second in the Rick Woolner Memorial this past weekend.
Emms started off the weekend with OSCAAR competition on Friday night at Sauble Speedway. The sophomore driver had a solid run, winning his first heat, followed by an eighth in the second heat.
The feature was cancelled as fellow competitor Rick Schurr suffered a heart attack. Fortunately, he is on the road to recovery, as he’s currently resting and recovering at the University Hospital in London.
Emms returned to Sauble on Sunday, looking for another solid performance. He was quick in time trialing, laying down the third quickest lap. He ran up front throughout the 50-lap feature, moving into the runner-up spot before halfway. Ultimately, he wasn’t able to catch the leader, finishing the race in the second spot.
The Rick Woolner Memorial is a unique race with a bunch of awards given out virtue of prize money donated by sponsors. Thanks to Jim Brown Trucking of Orangeville for donating the second feature finish bonus. Additionally, the entire team thanks Julia Woolner Stewart, Ken Berfelz and Tanya MacDougall for all their hard work to put together the event.
Emms will now focus his attention to Flamboro Speedway, where the next OSCAAR Modified event takes place this Saturday, July 9. In both previous races this season, Emms has run in the top-five throughout the 30-lap features and picked up a couple heat wins.
Emms and team thank Sunshine Super Wash – Orillia, Davenport Subaru, Creecher’s Design, Klotz Canada, Artech Promotional Wear – Orillia, Bromley Automotive, and TSS Top Shops – Barrie for the support.
