This past weekend, Luke Gignac continued to get more comfortable with his modified, posting a fourth place finish in the Rick Woolner Memorial.
Gignac started off the weekend with OSCAAR competition on Friday night at Sauble Speedway. The rookie was solid, posting a fourth and a second in his pair of heats.
The feature was cancelled as fellow competitor Rick Schurr suffered a heart attack. Fortunately, he is on the road to recovery, as he’s currently resting and recovering at the University Hospital in London.
Gignac returned to Sauble on Sunday, looking for another solid performance. He as quick in time trialing, posting the second quickest lap. He ran in the top-three throughout the 50-lap feature, though contact on a mi-race restart ultimately resulted in a fourth place finish.
“The car got loose on us after the Lap 33 caution,” team owner Allen Adams commented. “Contact on the restart put us up the wall, but no significant damage. Another solid run; car driver and team are getting better every week.”
The Rick Woolner Memorial is a unique race with a bunch of awards given out virtue of prize money donated by sponsors. Thanks to Sheila Eccles representing Craig McDonald, Reddon Insurance of Durham for sponsoring the Highest Finishing Rookie Award.
