An interesting line-up for the field with some heavy hitters mid-pack made for an interesting feature on Saturday night. But in the end, it was a familiar face picking up he win.
After taking the lead in the early stages, Gord Shepherd never looked back en route to scoring his first feature victory of the season. The former Barrie Speedway Champion entered the night as the points leader after scoring eight top-fives and nine top-10s, with a worst finish of 11th, in the first 10 races.
Travis Hallyburton finished second for his fourth top-five of the year, followed by Mike Bentley in third for a season-best finish. Billy Zardo was fourth after missing the top-10 the past five races, with Nick Goetz rounding out the top-five.
Dwayne Baker finished sixth, followed by Taylor Holdaway, Chris Morrow, Tom Walters and Ryan Kimball. Kevin Cornelius was 11th, followed by Britney Gresel, Thayne Hallyburton, Sean Cronan, Al Inglis, Mike Wilkinson and Jordan Latimer.
Scott Wylie led the opening laps of the feature after posting the quickest in time trials at 15.091 seconds, but saw his run end early with the motor going up in smoke. Ernie Fumerton, Lane Zardo and Adam Martin also ran into mechanical issues, resulting in DNFs.
Unfortunately, the second feature was not run as a result of rain washing out the last four features on the night. No plans have been announced on make-up date, but discussions have cited triple features being run on July 30.
