by Tommy Goudge (July 13, 2016) – Caistor Centre, Ontario – The Team Turner Racing Sprint Cars spent last weekend at two of their regular stops. The team has three races scheduled this weekend, including two in eastern Ontario.
The Turners – Jamie and sons Cory and Ryan – and teammate Havard Daniels were back at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday. Everyone was racing against the weather, which unfortunately closed in on the track just as the A-Feature for the 360 Sprint Cars was about to start.
The night had already been eventful for the team, as Ryan’s car caught fire due to an oil tank failure in his heat race. Cory finished 3rd in his heat, while Havard took 5th, and Jamie came home 6th. The postponed A-Feature will be run on July 22, along with another full 360 Sprint Car event.
“On a positive note the car was fast!” Ryan exclaimed. “Very happy with how the crew had the car handling. On the other hand, we had an oil tank failure…nothing that we can’t fix, and I’m glad there wasn’t too much damaged.”
Cory remains tied for 2nd in the Ohsweken championship standings, while Ryan is 4th, and Jamie is 9th.
Jamie, Cory, and Ryan next travelled east to Brighton Speedway for a Southern Ontario Sprints tour event on Saturday. Ryan won his heat race, while Cory took 2nd in his, and Jamie was 3rd. Ryan and Cory drew front row starting spots for the A-Feature, while Jamie started 6th.
Ryan fought an ill-handling car to bring home a 5th place finish, while Cory led 19 of 25 laps and ended up taking a runner-up finish. Jamie finished 6th in the non-stop race, which went green-to-checkered in just over 6 minutes.
“Had the car way too tight,” Ryan lamented. “We tried something tonight, and it was too far for the track. The moisture really hung in the track surface, and we did not have the hot ticket.”
This weekend’s schedule will see the team racing at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday, followed by Patriot Sprint Tour events at Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday, and Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday.
None of the Team Turner drivers have competed in Sprint Cars at either Brockville or Cornwall. Jamie is currently 3rd in the PST Canada series points standings, while Cory is 4th, and Ryan is 13th.
