PICTON, Ont. (July 19, 2016) – After an impressive rebound performance at Fulton Speedway, Tim Kerr has travelled south for the return of Big-Block Modified racing at the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH.
Kerr, a native of Picton, Ont., was involved in a damaging wreck at Brewerton Speedway last Friday night, but rebounded after a long rebuild process to finish third the next night at Fulton.
“It was a rough night. The track was rough and I overdrove it a bit. I hit a rut, got some air, and got in to the side of Larry (Wight),” Kerr said of Friday’s incident at Brewerton. “We had to get some parts for the car and that put us behind the eight ball. We had to rebuild the car Saturday morning.”
Saturday’s race at Fulton went green to checkered and after initially falling back, Kerr drove back to a third-place finish at the Central New York 3-8-mile.
“We had a strong shot at the leaders if we had got a caution. We fell back early. If I hadn’t fallen back and the car had fired in the first lap or two we might have been alright. It took four or five laps for the car to get going, but once we did we rolled back through everybody and got up to third,” Kerr explained.
Kerr has shown speed all season long in his Bronskill Group/Home Hardward Picton No.07 and earned a victory in May at Brewerton. The first three months of the season have been a roller coaster ride, but the pieces of the puzzle are in place for Kerr for to finish consistently in the top-five.
“The car’s running really well. We’ve made a few adjustments over the last little while and I’m happy with it. We just have to stay out of trouble,” Kerr remarked.
Now, Kerr is set for a visit to Eldora with events at the big half-mile on Tuesday, July 19 and Wednesday, July 20 alongside the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The race is the first for the Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds since 2006.
Kerr said it was a last-minute decision for him to bring his Hubert-Kerr Construction team to the Tony Stewart-owned speed plant.
“I like the big tracks. There’s a little bit more room to race. I like the big tracks like Volusia and Charlotte where it’s a little wider and a little racier,” Kerr said excitedly.
The Ohio dirt at Eldora throws a curveball at Kerr and the rest of the Big-Block Modified drivers who are used to racing on much harder New York clay.
“It’s going to be a challenge for you. We’re looking forward to it with what we’ve got in the car. I’ve leaned on some of the veteran drivers that have been there before to see what they thought tires were going to do. We’re prepared for the worst and we’ll go from there,” Kerr commented.
Following two nights at Eldora, Kerr and his team will then decide whether to head east to Sharon (OH) Speedway with the Super DIRTcar Series on Thursday, July 21.
