BRIGHTON, Ont. – August 2, 2016 – The Southern Ontario Sprints return to Brighton Speedway on Saturday, August 6 to begin a busy month of racing for the tour and for the track. Rapid Rad and MyFM 93.3 present the fourth visit of the season for the SOS, Ontario’s only touring 360 Sprint Car series. The Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modifieds, Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks, Bill’s Johns Comp 4s and Quinte Septic Stingers are on the card for Saturday’s event. The Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models have the weekend off before Fan Appreciation night on Saturday, August 13.
Adult admission to Saturday’s Southern Ontario Sprints showdown at Brighton is $20. A family pass, valid for two adults and up to three children 16 and under, is just $45. Spectator gates open at5:30pm before hot laps at 6:00pm and racing at 7:00pm.
The SOS returns to action after nearly a month off from active competition. The tour last competed on July 9 at Brighton when 17-year-old Dylan Westbrook of Oakland, Ont. went to victory lane. Westbrook is the hot shoe entering Saturday’s race with two wins and a third-place finish in his last three series races. Westbrook also enters the race as the series’ point leader. Port Colborne, Ont. pilot Shawn Sliter is second ahead of Caistor Centre teammates Ryan Turner and Jamie Turner. Frank Baranowski completes the top-five. Brantford’s Mitch Brown won the first two races at Brighton this season on May 21 and June 18.
Andrew Hennessy enlarged his lead at the top of the Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modified point standings with his second-consecutive win last Saturday. It was also his sixth of the season and gives the Picton, Ont. native a 230-point advantage over fellow Picton pilot Kraig Handley. Dan Ferguson remains third in the standings ahead of Derrick Greig and Josh Hennessy.
Justin Ramsay’s sixth Brighton Automotive Pro Stock win of the season extended his lead ahead of Picton driver Wade Purchase. Doug Anderson and Brandon Murrell sit third and fourth, respectively, with two wins apiece. Jonah Mutton occupies fifth in the standings with one win to his credit, the first of his career, which came on July 9 when the SOS were last in town.
Tyler French scored his first win since June 4 last Saturday night, his fifth of the season, narrowly beating rookie drive Matthew Moore to the checkered flag. Moore sits second in the standings, ahead of Peter Moore (no relation). Adam Flieler sits fourth in the standings.
The Quinte Septic Stingers return to action after their usual week off. Chris Lammle is the new point leader with a 40-point advantage over Del MacGregor. Rick Phillips is third, just 60 points off the lead, while Jorden Pickell and Arthur McCauley sit fourth and fifth. The Junior Stinger division has just a 30-point separation between cousins Chantel and Brittany Golden at the top. James Turgeon is third, just 40 points off the lead. Willy Bulten and Dylan Lobb swapped positions and now sit fourth and fifth in the standings, respectively.
