Despite enduring some recent frustrations, Sean Cronan was able to notch down his third top-five of the season on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
The night was busy with three features on the night, with Cronan starting 10th in the first 35-lapper to kick off the evening. He’d keep himself solidly in line, though slipped back to 11th in the early stages. The slipping back continued, ultimately resulting in a 13th place finish.
Looking to put the race behind him, Cronan laid down a time of 15.157 to qualify fourth for the second feature and started off the feature well, running in the third spot. A couple early cautions later, he lost some ground, though, running sixth as of Lap 9. Though with speed in the car, he was able to fight back as he got alongsideĀ alongside Thayne Hallyburton for fifth with eight laps to go.
Battling side-by-side over the course of the end of the feature, he was able to clear him with two laps to go, finishing the 35-lap affair in fifth.
With the 12-car invert in place, Cronan started the second feature from the eighth spot, quickly making ground as he was able to move up to fifth by Lap 3, followed by a pass to move into fourth with 31 laps to go. He’d get a good restart, moving into third with a pass on Ryan Kimball. A couple back-to-back cautions saw Cronan fight to remain third ahead of Taylor Holdaway, while trying to get by Paul Maltese for second.
Ultimately, the restart with 25 laps to go changed the course of the night as Cronan got put in a three-wide situation. Ultimately, it didn’t work out in his favor as he got sideways at Lap 15, falling back through the field before contact with another competitor. He’d then pull off the track into the pits, done for the night.
