By Randy Spencer (Flamboro Speedway PR) – A busy couple of days at Bennett Chevrolet Flamboro Speedway got underway Saturdayas we honored the First Responders that protect us every day. And the final King of the Hill spectator race of the year was once again very popular with the fans.
In Klotz Auto Repair & Engine Machine Shop Mini Stock feature action, Russ Aicken entered the night trailing Blair Wickett by a mere two points in the standings. Aicken picked up both twenty lap feature wins while Wickett had a third and a DNF in the second feature. Jake Gilbert had a strong run with two third place finishes.
Shawn Chenoweth was still filling in for Shawn Arnott in the 76 Ray’s Auto Centre & Towing Thunder Car and made the best of it picking up both twenty lap feature wins. Chenoweth was running double duty as he raced his Late Model as well. Chenoweth dominated both features winning by big margins. The 76 car entered the night trailing points leader Brad Collison by thirteen points. Collison had a second and third on the night so the race will tighten up even more.
The Grisdale Late Models made their return after a few weeks away and fifteen cars were signed in. A couple of youngsters showed the way as Matt Lockwood dominated the first thirty lap feature and had a huge lead but a caution with three laps remaining made Lockwood work for this one down to the wire. He managed to hold of David Elliott and Shawn Chenoweth in the last three laps to pick up the win. In feature two, Chad Corocoran took the lead on a restart half way through and had Chenoweth on his tail making him work very hard for this one. On the final lap, Chenoweth got underneath Corcoran’s bumper getting him loose but Chad held on and picked up his first Late Model feature win. Congratulations Chad!!
The Pro Four Modifieds were out with seven cars signed in. Mike Westwood was behind the wheel of Dan Nanticoke’s 15 car and made the best of it as he swept both features.
That brought to a close another exciting night of racing. Thanks to all those First Responders from Cambridge, Kitchener Waterloo, Burlington, Dundas, Mount Hope, Millgrove and Baden that attended out first annual night. We appreciate how you keep us safe every day! Congratulations to Shaynne McGregor from Cambridge for winning the family pass prize courtesy of Flamboro Speedway.
Our busy August continues as we have our biggest event so far this season as the GOLD RUSH takes place Monday! The past two events were for the Pro Late Models, this time the Outlaw Super Late Models are the lucky recipients. Super Late Models from all over Ontario will be on hand and rumor has it that many from bordering U.S. tracks are looking at making the trip here to take home the cash. There are two cars from Flat Rock Speedway in Michigan already confirmed. The race will be 100 laps with $5,000 to the winner and an extra $5,000 is up for grabs if the top qualifier surrenders the position to start at the back and if they come to the front and win, the get $10,000. It almost happened in one of the Pro Late Model Gold Rush events so it is possible. With just 20 cars taking the green, this should be exciting!! Sixteen cars will qualify through time trials and the remaining four will be determined by a twenty lap B feature. The fastest Super Late Model in time trials gets an extra $500. The Pure Stocks will run and Invitational Mini Gold Rush. The field of 24 will be set trough time trials for the 25 lap main event. The winner will get $300 and as in the Super Late Model race, if the top qualifier surrenders his or her spot and comes through the field and wins, they get an extra $300 for a total of $600. Monday, Pits open at 3pm, Main grandstand at 5pm, Pure Stock Time Trials at 630pm, Outlaw Super Late Model Time Trials at 7pm and the main events start at 8pm.
