Like he has all season, Luke Gignac turned in another solid run at Delaware Speedway on Friday night, posting a sixth place finish.
The night started off on a solid note with a fourth place finish in his only heat of the night.
Starting sixth in the feature, the start saw Gignac drop back to seventh after the first couple of laps. He then fell back another spot by Lap 9, running eighth, but was able to move back up to seventh when he got around Chris Milwain at Lap 13. He’d begin to make ground, using a restart at Lap 17 to move into the sixth spot.
Gignac remained sixth till the feature got near it’s end, when he was able to get alongside Jamie Cox for fifth. Unfortunately, he was unable to complete the pass, crossing the finish line in sixth.
“I think the night went well,” he said. “I could’ve qualified a little better if we had our twin heats, but qualified seventh and fell back a bit – made my way back up to finish sixth. All in all, a pretty good night as the car is still in one piece.”
With a solid rookie campaign under his belt including a top-eight finish each race this season, Gignac will be one of the seven drivers fighting for the OSCAAR Modified Champion in the Race for the Cup.
“Just keep racing like we have all year and not mess anybody up, and hopefully they won’t mess you up,” he said. “Just try and race clean, and stay out of trouble.”
The next race for the OSCAAR Modifieds is at Sauble Speedway on August 27.
