Unfortunately after being involved in a pair of incidents, Jade Franklin just missed the top-10 on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
With the first feature being for NASCAR points and Franklin being unable to run due to having to be 14-years-old or older, Robbie Sikes jumped behind the wheel of the No. 31 entry. Starting from the tail of the field, Sikes ran 19th as of the first caution with 17 laps to go. From there, he played a conservative route, but made up some ground en route to a 16th place finish.
Come time for the second feature, Franklin started the 30-lap event from the 13th position. The early stages saw Franklin make up some ground, however contact with Dustyn Mombourquette at Lap 3 resulted in Mombourquette going around. For his involvement in the incident, Franklin was sent to the back as an involved car. Restarting on the tail of the field, Franklin worked his way back up to the 16th position by Lap 9, and was up to 13th by the halfway mark of the event.
Unfortunately, the second half of the event didn’t go as planned as contact with Kendra Adams resulted in her going around, and once again Franklin was sent to the back of the field as an involved car. Restarting tail end charlie of the field, Franklin worked at making up ground, though was only able to make it up back to 13th by the time the checkered flag flew.
The finish breaks a string of 12 straight nights this season at Sunset Speedway Jaded Motorsports had posted a top-10 finish, combining the results of Franklin and Sikes this year. Notably, this is Franklin’s first finish outside of the top-10 this season in 12 starts, placing him fifth in points, four points out of fourth.
