STIRLING, Ont. – September 14, 2016 – The Go Nuclear Late Model Series heads east this weekend for a tripleheader weekend of action. The series visits Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, NY for two nights on September 16 and 17 during the Mohawk Nationals. Go Nuclear Late Models will then head south to tackle Weedsport Speedway on Sunday, September 18.
The busy weekend of action could help decide the 2016 championship with a tight battle at the top of the standings. Drivers in the Go Nuclear Series have been off from active series competition since competing at Ohsweken Speedway on July 25 after the reschedule Gnome Cup was rained out on August 14.
Friday night, the Dibbits Excavating 30 will put the top Crate Late Model teams in the Northeast against each other. The top nine starting positions will be set via a revenge redraw in which drivers have to giveaway their starting position to another driver. The Go Nuclear Late Model Series is joined by the DIRTcar 358 Modified tour.
Saturday, the series will hit the track again for the fourth annual Richard Tenace Memorial presented by Tenacious Sound. The race will also be 30 laps in length and will follow the traditional Go Nuclear redraw format. The DIRTcar Sportsman Series is also on the schedule Saturday night. Racing is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm both nights with hot laps slated for 7:00pm.
Last season, Charlie Sandercock won Friday night’s race at the Mohawk Nationals while Picton, Ont. native Adam Turner scored his first career Go Nuclear Series win on Saturday. In 2014, Sandercock swept the weekend.
The weekend tripleheader will end Sunday at Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, NY, near Syracuse. The Gillee’s NAPA Auto Parts 30 marks the second ever visit to the newly refurbished track for the Go Nuclear Series. Lee Gill won the inaugural event at Weedsport in 2015. Racing gets underway at 6:00pm.
Entering the weekend, Sandercock holds a 44-point lead over Brighton, Ont. native Brandon Mowat. Phil Potts sits just three points behind Mowat in third.
Just three drivers have claimed victories on the tour in five races so far this season. John Waters of Whitesville, NY won the series opener at Utica-Rome Speedway back on April 24 and won the series most recent race at Ohsweken on July 25.
Sandercock scored victories at Brighton and Cornwall on back-to-back weekends on June 25 and July 3, respectively. Mowat earned his first career series win at Humberstone Speedway on July 24.
