TEAM TURNER RACING: REBUILT & READY FOR CSCN WEEKEND

by Tommy Goudge (September 16, 2016) – Caistor Centre, Ontario – The Team Turner Racing Sprint Car drivers scored a pair of top five finishes last Friday, but saw another potential top five end with a wrecked race car in a cornfield. Now the team is ready for their biggest weekend of the season.

Jamie Turner and sons Cory and Ryan were back at Merrittville Speedway for the final race of the Southern Ontario Sprints tour season on Friday. All three drivers had good results in their heat races, and made the redraw for A-Feature starting positions.

Ryan drew the 8th starting spot and moved forward with his Aces Bar & Grill #91 to claim a 4th place finish behind Jamie, who started and finished 3rd in his Insta-Insulation #11. Cory started on the front row and was racing for the lead when he touched the right rear wheel of Dylan Westbrook’s car. The contact sent the Hill’s Racing #97 on a wild ride over the wall and into the field outside the first turn. Fortunately the safety gear did its job, but the car was destroyed.

“Felt like we had a top three car tonight, but the driver made some errors halfway through the race missing the bottom on a couple of laps,” Ryan lamented. “All in all, we’re glad Cory was ok after a scary roll, and happy with another top 5. Now we will get ready for the Nationals this weekend. ”

A new car is ready for Cory now, and the team will take on over 70 opponents in the 12th annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals weekend at Ohsweken Speedway. Along with the regularly-scheduled races on Friday and Saturday, the team will also take part in the makeup A-Feature for the Empire Super Sprints tour which was rained out at Ohsweken on August 5. Ryan is scheduled to start 9th in that race, while Cory will likely start near the back of the field.
