After running up front throughout qualifying and the early stages of the race, Luke Gignac saw his Autumn Colours Classic end early after getting caught up in a wreck.
Gignac started off the weekend in victory lane, picking up the victory in his first heat on track. He then followed it up with a fourth place finish in his second heat.
As a result of his qualifying effort, Gignac started the 50-lap feature in the eighth position. Starting on the outside, he fell back to ninth at the start of the event, though was able to get back up to eighth following an early-race restart at Lap 13. Unfortunately, he didn’t remain there as he slid back to 10th by Lap 23, and then got caught up in an incident with Robert Warnes and Brian McLean in turn four on Lap 28.
Gignac was able to make some repairs on pit road, before rejoining the field at the tail end of the pack. Restarting at the back, he was set on regaining ground towards the front, though ultimately saw his race end early when he got caught up in a wreck in turn four on Lap 37.
As a result of his DNF, Gignac has unfortunately been eliminated from championship contention.
The next race for the OSCAAR Modifieds is at Flamboro Speedway on October 15.
