JTG Daugherty racing announced today that after seven seasons as a single car team, it will be expanding operations to field two full-time cars in 2017. AJ Allmendinger will return as the driver of the No. 47 entry, with Chris Buescher coming aboard to drive the second car.
Roush-Fenway Racing (RFR) announced in a release today that it would lease the NASCAR charter for its No. 16 team to JTG along with Buescher. This will guarantee a starting spot for Buescher. It is important to note that while NASCAR rules allow teams to lease a charter, it is only permissible for one year. After that time, RFR will have to once again field an entry for the charter or sell it to another team.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity and look forward to competing for a spot in the Chase,” Buescher, the 2015 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion, said.
Buescher competed in the 2016 Sprint Cup season for Front Row Motorsports. The 24 year old driver from Prosper, TX won the Pennsylvania 400 at Pocono Raceway this season which qualified him for the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
