Drew Herring returns to the NASCAR Xfinity Series this weekend in the Boyd Gaming 300 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway with JGL Racing.
He returns to JGL Racing for the second straight season. Last season, he made four starts behind the wheel of the No. 24 Toyota Camry along with one start in the No. 18 Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing. His best finish came at Iowa where he finished 12th after starting ninth.
It will be his first career start at Las Vegas and with a new rule package, he’ll look to Corey LaJoie, who raced the No. 24 last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway to a 16th-place finish, for guidance.
“I am really looking forward to my first race of the season back behind the wheel of the No. 24 Toyota. I am just very thankful for the opportunity that James Whitener is giving me to get back on the track.” Herring said in a team release. “This will be my first time racing at the Las Vegas track and first time working with Clinton Cram. I feel confident that we will continue to build on the things learned last weekend with Corey LaJoie on this new package. I look forward to a successful weekend for all of us at JGL Racing and this Young Guns program.”
It will be Herring’s 21st start in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He has a best finish of fourth coming at Kentucky Speedway in 2012 with Joe Gibbs Racing. He also has two career poles, both coming at Iowa. Herring is expected to make a couple more starts with JGL this season, although the remainder of his schedule is to be determined.
