A strong day for Brad Keselowski saw the No. 2 Miller Lite Ford Fusion return to the top-five for the first time since Kansas Speedway nearly one month ago when he finished second.
After two straight weekends of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Keselowski finally led some laps and was competitive at a track that he’s had success at in the past.
After starting sixth, Keselowski maintained his position through pit stops and long green flag runs. Through pit strategy, Keselowski found him starting on the front row for the final restart alongside Kyle Busch. With a shot at the win on the line, things didn’t go as planned but he was able to cross the finish line to wind up fifth. He led 11 laps, his first laps led since he led 31 laps at Talladega back at the beginning of May.
“I just didn’t get enough go on the restart, which was a bummer. I don’t know, I feel like I probably could have won it if I had just gotten that launch. Kyle got a great launch. He went a tiny but before the line, but not enough to where NASCAR was gonna call it, and I didn’t get the launch I needed.”
In a reversal of roles, Keselowski played pit reporter as protege Ryan Blaney climbed out of the No. 21 Ford Motorcraft Ford Fusion in victory lane. Yesterday, Blaney played pit reporter on the drivers-only called XFINITY broadcast on FOX.
Now, Keselowski heads back to Michigan International Speedway, his hometrack, where he is still chasing his first victory in the Irish Hills.
