After competing in his first multi-race season in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series for the first time since 2006, Derrike Cope is now out of a ride.
Cope has competed in 13 of the first 26 races this season driving for Premium Motorsports. After the race at Richmond Raceway, Cope announced via his Facebook page he and the team have mutually decided to call it quits after ESPN published a report saying Cope was out at the team.
The 58-year-old former Daytona 500 winner had a best finish of 31st this season, a stat he acquired twice on the year. A team release said Cope’s plans for the remainder of the season would be released “in the coming weeks.”
