After spending the last two years racing just in the street and road course races for Ed Carpenter Racing, the team has now promoted Spencer Pigot to a full-time Verizon Indy Car Series ride in 2018.
“It’s nice to know that they believe in me and I can provide them with the results that they want,” said Pigot. “There’s no other team I want to be with right now. I definitely enjoy working with ECR and I was really hoping I would get to continue with this team.”
“I’m still relatively early in my INDYCAR career,” Pigot added. “Hopefully I’m around for a long time. There’s definitely more for me to learn, especially on ovals, which I haven’t raced on regularly in a couple of years.
The American driver will start his 11th race this season in the No. 20 Fuzzy’s Vodka Chevrolet in Sunday’s GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, which is also the last race of the season. Pigot has shared driving duties in the No. 20 ECR Chevy with car owner Ed Carpenter since June of last year. Pigot drove the car during road and street courses, and Carpenter drove the car during ovals. Next year, Pigot will pilot the team’s sister car, the No. 21, currently being driven by J.R. Hildebrand.
During his IndyCar Series run, Pigot has three top-10 finishes for ECR in 2017 with his best finish of eighth at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
