When you look at first, second and third in the NASCAR XFINITY Series playoff standings, you see one common denominator – they’re all JR Motorsports drivers. The one anomaly in the playoffs is Chip Ganassi Racing driver Brennan Poole.
Poole is fourth in points, holding the final playoff position ahead of rookie Cole Custer by 13 points.
With Elliott Sadler, William Byron and Justin Allgaier holding fairly large gaps over Custer in fifth, they’re all pretty likely to be racing for a championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway; meaning Poole, Custer along with Matt Tifft, Daniel Hemric and Ryan Reed are likely all fighting for the final position.
Poole’s run well at Phoenix Raceway in the past, scoring two top-10 finishes at the track, including an eighth-place finish earlier this year. If the Texas driver can run well again this weekend, he could be in good position to lock up a spot to race for the championship.
