NASCAR announced Monday, Jason Burdett, crew chief of the No. 7, JR Motorsports Chevrolet driven by Xfinity Series championship contender, Justin Allgaier has been fined $10,000 and suspended from the next championship points event.
Obviously, the next championship points event for the NASCAR Xfinity Series is Ford Ecoboost Championship Weekend at Homestead. This leaves Allgaier without his regular crew chief for perhaps the most important race of his career. This fact will make an already steep challenge significantly more difficult.
On Tuesday, Jr Motorsports announced Billy Wilburn will be atop the pit box for the team in the finale. “We’re fortunate to be in a position where we have such a strong support staff at JR Motorsports,” said general manager Kelley Earnhardt Miller. “There are a number of talented individuals that could fill this role, but ultimately it makes the most sense to utilize Billy in this capacity. He’s an experienced leader, well-respected, and has a detailed knowledge of this team. We’re lucky to have him and are completely confident in the team’s abilities this weekend.”
Allgaier has two wins this season along with ten top-fives, and 17 top-tens. The Riverton, Illinois driver will have to battle two of his JR Motorsports teammates for the title as William Byron and Elliott Sadler also advanced the Championship 4. Richard Childress Racing driver, Daniel Hemric, will try to play spoiler as the only competitor not affiliated with JR Motorsports.
One thing is for certain this weekend – we will crown a champion who has never won an Xfinity Series championship.
