The first season of the playoff format in the Xfinity Series is dominated by Jr. Motorsports. Jr. Motorsports is taking up three of the four playoff spots that are competing for a championship Saturday. Mathematically Jr. Motorsports has the best odds to win the championship with Elliott Sadler, William Byron and Justin Allgaier.
The final driver to the Championship 4, who has a chance to beat those odds is Daniel Hemric. Hemric secured his spot last weekend at Phoenix after misfortune took other drivers out of contention. In his rookie year in the Xfinity series, Hemric has posted 16 top 10’s with one race remaining. Although this year is Hemric’s rookie season in the Xfinity Series, he does have experience at Homestead in the truck series, including an eighth place finish in 2015 and a fifth place in 2016.
Hemric was the slowest of the playoff drivers in both practice sessions on Friday. He will, however, start fourth in today’s EcoBoost 300, the highest qualifier of the playoff drivers.
