Question marks surrounded Garrett Smithley’s future at JD Motorsports heading into the offseason, but now those question marks have turned into exclamation points.
The team announced on Wednesday that Smithley will return to the team driving the No. 0 car in 2018, the car he dubbed ‘Number Nuthin’ since joining the South Carolina-based organization in 2016.
“I’m so excited to be back with JD Motorsports with Gary Keller this season,” Smithley said in a team release. “We’ve had two very successful seasons together and to be given the opportunity to continue to build on that is something I do not take for granted.”
Smithley joins returning teammate in Ross Chastain to the team, as well as Vinnie Miller and Matt Mills, who will run the team’s third and fourth entries during the season.
Team owner Johnny Davis welcomes Smithley back to the team following a successful 2017 campaign which saw him score his first two career top-10 finishes.
“I’m very happy to have Garrett back in the No. 0 Chevy again this season,” said team owner, Johnny Davis. “Garrett has a lot of talent as a driver, and he has the right attitude for working with his team, his crew chief, and the team’s sponsors. This will be JD Motorsports’ best season yet, and having Garrett behind the wheel will play a key part in that.”
