During a press conference this morning at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, it was announced that Matt Kenseth would in fact be returning to Roush-Fenway Racing. However, there are still many questions left to be answered.
A few things that were addressed:
- Kenseth will be making his return at Kansas Speedway on Saturday, May 12th.
- New sponsor Wyndham Rewards joins the team as a sponsor for select races
- Kenseth will run the All-Star race at Charlotte
Some other questions were very delicately handled. There was no answer on what would happen if Trevor Bayne wins the race this coming weekend at Talladega. “That’s a good problem to have” was the official statement.
Jack Roush said that when he called Kenseth, Matt asked why it took him so long to call. Roush said he had, “a little rawness over him leaving me when he did.” But Roush went onto say that, “We see a potential role of Matt being involved in the company beyond his driving. We haven’t talked about it yet.”
When asked if he had spoken with Trevor Bayne Matt says that, “I haven’t spoken to Trevor yet. I wanted to give that a little time to settle down.”
This is a very fluid situation and OnPitRoad.com will continue to follow the story as it develops. As it stands, Matt Kenseth is back in the MENCS part-time with the only announced races so far as Kansas and the All-Star event.
