(Delaware ON) Trevor Collver finally had a day that resulted in a good finish Saturday afternoon at Delaware Speedway. Part of the main events of the Great Canadian Race Weekend, Collver drove his Carter Trucking/Champion Spark Plug Chevrolet to 5thplace finish in the final race of the 2014 season.
The team did encounter one small hiccup prior to the actual racing. After unloading the race car, a water leak from the radiator was discovered before pre-race practice. The team was determined to practice and made quick temporary repairs to allow for track time. A replacement radiator was eventually installed prior to the autograph session.
The Home & Home series race format consists of twin 25 lap features, with the starting positions set by time trials held the night before. Collver, suffered some chassis issues during his qualifying session and was only able to manage a time good enough to start 12th.
Saturday’s first 25 lapper was set to go green. With the fast qualifiers already at the front, Collver would have his work cut out to advance forward. Collver fought hard with Kathleen Hosang, Dave Bailey, and Brad Collison to get inside the top ten. Further up, one of the faster qualifiers Shae Gemmell had been dropping back with an apparent tire issue which moved Collver up one more spot. Coming to the checkers, Kevin Albers was doing all he could to hold on to 7th spot with intense pressure from Collver, and Chad Rijnen. Collver finished up the first feature race in 8th.
After minor adjustments, Trevor Collver lined up in the in the 9th spot for the 2nd leg of the event. Collver would follow eventual winner Chad Rijnen through traffic, and quickly was made progress through the field. Gemmell, who experienced tire issues in the first leg, had started on pole and had rocketed out to substantial lead. Rijnen and Collver would eventually break out and gather up 2nd and 3rdspot respectively and made every effort in catching Gemmell. A caution flag midway would bunch the field up for a restart and business picked up at the front of the field. Jo Lawrence was able to sneak by Collver on the outside and went to work on Rijnen and Gemmell. Meanwhile, 2014 Super Stock Champion Brandon Verhoovan had worked his way to the front and quickly put Collver by the wayside on his way to the front, When the checkers flag finally flew, and the dust had settled, Collver found himself with a solid top 5 finish in 5th.
In a post race Facebook post, Collver was pleased with the outing and being part of the Great Canadian Race Weekend. Also offered thanks to his crew by name, and is looking forward to the 2015 Season.
