Ryan Newman was fastest during Friday Afternoon’s opening practice for Sunday’s Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead – Miami Speedway.
Newman ran a quick lap of 30.789 seconds (175.387 MPH). Martin Truex Jr. was second with a speed of 175.353 MPH.
Kyle Larson was third followed by championship contenders Joey Logano and Jimmie Johnson.
Brad Keselowski, AJ Allmendinger, Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, and Chase Elliott rounded out the top 10.
Notables include: Denny Hamlin 11th, Matt Kenseth 13th, Kevin Harvick 15th, Austin Dillon 16th, Kurt Busch 17th, Kasey Kahne 20th, and Tony Stewart was 23rd.
