Win-Tron Racing announced on Wednesday that hometown favorite Mason Mingus will pilot the No. 33 in place of injured Justin Fontaine on Saturday Night at Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville in the Music City 200 presented by Azure Foundation. Fontaine, the AM Racing development driver, was injured in a crash at the Daytona International Speedway during the ARCA Racing Series race in February.
“I’m really stoked to get back to racing in the ARCA Racing Series and with Win-Tron Racing,” said Mingus. “I’ve only been in one ARCA race since 2013, so I’m anxious to get back behind the wheel and have a strong race for Justin (Fontaine), dsmamt and ProMATIC.”
Despite being an ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards veteran, Mingus will be making his first start at Fairgrounds Speedway behind the wheel of an ARCA Racing car. The Brentwood, TN native has 35 starts in ARCA with a best finish of second three times (Talladega, Toledo, and Berlin).
Even though Mingus hasn’t started in an ARCA Car at Fairgrounds Speedway, he does have experience there behind the wheel of a late model. Last season, Mingus finished 12th in the North/South Super Late Model Challenge 125 after having engine issues.
“Mason did a lot of great things for Win-Tron Racing over the years and I’m glad to have him back in one of our cars this weekend at Nashville,” said Cywinski. “I think he’ll be a great teammate to Gus and I know we’re taking two cars capable of contending for the race win.” stated team principal at Win-Tron Racing.
Mingus joins Gus Dean at Win-Tron, who is seeking the overall drivers championship, and will also be looking for his second career victory. Dean is looking to rebound from a disappointing race at Daytona in February when he was involved in a mid-race crash.
